Welcome to SGXRMX2 ! Project COMPLETE! Album RELEASED! Submissions CLOSED!

Once upon a time, the magnanimous SGX was troubled with a distinct lack of remix within his realm.  "My followers must have remix!" he proclaimed.  One fortuitous night, SGX descended into his forges of sonance and brought fourth four empyreal stem files.  WIth a mighty heave, SGX scattered the stem files across the internet in the hopes that they might find their way to the finest of songsmiths in the realm.

For several moons SGX waited.  Finally, 18 honorable champions of the remix presented SGX with their best efforts.  SGX observed these remixes and reflected upon the many hours his subjects spent toiling for the good of the realm.    Eleven remixes shone even brighter than the rest.  The remixes pleased SGX, however the number eleven did not.  "One more remix must be forged!" SGX determined, so he descended once again into his mighty sound forge and produced one final, glorious remix himself.

"These excellent etudes must be heard by anyone with an ear for the sublime, young and old, far and wide!" SGX decided.  With this in mind, SGX set forth to construct a vehicle for the delivery of these magnificent remixes.  He wondered, "How does one amalgamate such greatness into one place?"  Of course!  The only solution was to construct the mightiest album ever known!  "I shall call it SGXRMX2 - the SGX Remix project."  And so it was.

WHO WON STUFF?!

I said that I would send T-shirts to my personal three favorite remixes' remixers, but I think I will send four. Hy Bound, Nicole Adams, and David L. Puga's respective remixes were my personal favorites, but Darius came in with two very high quality mixes, so a shirt will go to him too! I'll be contacting you guys for your infos.

PLEASE CHOOSE YOUR FAVORITE 5 REMIXES The top five scorers (excluding the four that I selected) will get a free CD.

WHAT IS SGXRMX2?

The SGX Remix Project is a fun competition to remix one of my tracks. Two years ago we did Better Than Sliced Beats - The SGX Remix Project (AKA SGXRMX1). For that project, any song of mine from the album Synesthetic and before was open to remixing. Remixers remixed the tracks, submitted them, and I produced the album. Few project files and/or loops were supplied, however. This year, I am supplying full sample packs for four of my songs from the album Chroma. I am also taking this much less seriously and NOT producing any physical album with the results of the project. This will simply be a free downloadable album. I will be making a cover image. All tracks I recieve will be posted here individually, but it is possible all will not be included in the downloadable album that will be available free on Jamendo depending on amount of tracks submitted and quality (my discresion).

SGXRMX2 IS OVER - CAN I STILL REMIX?

Sure! I probably won't post anything new up here unless I am super-wowed by it, but you can still use my sample packs for fun as long as you abide by my usage rules to the right --->

MIDI:

I've only got midis for two tracks and these are incomplete (for various reasons - not all tracks were made entirely in software that can output a mid file). These will not play in a midi player - they do not contain general midi instrument definitions and are merely to help you figure out the notes in my songs.
coactive midi
me semper maneas midi

All sample packs have whatever project files I had on hand included. I use weird combinations of software (Reason, Project5, Ableton Live, ACID), so nothing is complete. You'll be missing samples and vsti's also.

YOU AGREE TO THESE TERMS:

  • YOU MAY distribute any remix you make with these files for free in any way you like as long as it is clear that it is a remix of something of mine and I am credited. Please link to my site www.sgxmusic.com whenever possible.
  • YOU MUST have my name somewhere in the mp3 file - filename or tags
  • YOU MUST notify me about your remix and let me hear it! Even if your remix is not participating in this project.
  • DO NOT use these materials as part of your own original song. These should only appear in something that has my name on it in some fashion.
  • DO NOT try to make money off of anything you do with these.
  • DO NOT make silly faces. You might get stuck like that.

Remixes marked with a were selected by me to appear in the final compiled album.

New mixes - tracks done after SGXRMX2 was finalized

Markypoops - Me Semper Maneas [Ab Imo Pectore Mix]
Late-comer Markypoops brings us a pretty cool mashup containing pieces from all four tracks of SGXRMX2. Some parts have issues with clipping, a riff from Coactive repeats too much, and I don't think the vocals go well with the music at the beginning, but other sections are cool enough to bring this track back to "sweet!" status. There's even some Lofi in there! Intense, melodic, overall pretty good! Worth checking out.

Batch 3 - posted 05.10.07

Xain's Lofi-Semper Mashup
This track is kind of chill, minimal. It wanders quite a bit.
download
Hy Bound - Coactive [Hy Bound's Retroactive Breaks Mix]
Damn...another Coactive mix. But wait - this one is actually really effin' awesome. Get ready to have your face blasted with beats. Don't sneeze.
download
Xain- Coactive [Xain's Gambit Mix]
I dig the reverse piano sounds in the intro. This one is another Coactive mix that mostly sounds like my original, but some interesting things are done.
download
Avaris - Lofi Attitude [Simpla-Fied Mix]
Finally! Another Lofi mix! Pretty interesting. Less structure and a bit more wandering than mine, but nice to listen to.
download

Ross Kmet - Be Coactive and Find Your Haven [Phresh Lettuce Mix]
Longest title ever! Short remix! Cool stuff though - it incorporates both Haven and Coactive stuff, new beats, new string chords, and some fun distortions. Good stuff.
download

Nicole Adams - Me Semper Maneas [Nicole Adams Mix]
This is a great, upbeat breakbeat take on MSM. Great melodies, details, production, etc. It ends with a very interesting take on the middle section of my original version. I likes!
download
Shadow - Coactive [Shadow's Electric Mix]
Coactive, plus a sprinkle of Haven. I'd have dug it a bit more if it kept a more consistent groove.
download
Stikku - Haven [Haven Arrange]
Decent rearrangement of my Haven loops.
download
David L. Puga - Lofi Attitude [Electric Sheep Mix]
I loves it! David returns from BTSB with a similarly interesting take on one of my more ambient tracks. Again, he takes my stuff, puts some new ideas and melodies on top, and makes something I find extremely interesting to listen to. He says, "It's a concept remix, kinda. Based around the book & subsequent movies based off of it. I wanted to make it follow what a Robot's thoughts, as well as dreams might sound like, while still using the Blade Runner/A.I. concepts. So, it's got some organic stuff, strings & piano, & a lot of bit crushed, industrial electronics sprinkled throughout, as well as sudden transitions."

Batch 2 - posted 03.11.07

OverCoat - Coactive [overcoatmix]
This is way slower than the original. He's added some really cool string chords that I like a lot. It is interesting hearing Coactive slowed down so much. There's some rearranging of the piano audio clip.
download
Malcos - Coactive [Malcos Slowdown Mix]
This is a pretty rad track from Malcos. It's slowed down and has a bit of a hip-hop beat. Pieces of Me Semper Maneas vocals thrown in and pitched up. I like this one a lot!
download
FoonG- SGXRMX2 Overture
This was pretty ambitious - FoonG has put together pieces of all four SGXRMX2 tracks in various different ways. The track kind of jumps through several different ideas really quickly. Some rock. I'm just amped he's gotten some Lofi Attitude in there.
download
wauterboi - Coactive [Under Water Breakbeats Mix]
This is pretty simple, but I find myself liking it a lot. Coactive has been really slowed down and given a dreamy atmosphere. It is interesting to me because it reminds me of a couple tracks from the K-Pax soundtrack that initially had inspired me when I began Coactive, but as I worked on Coactive, it became something unlike my original inspiration. This remix here brings it back.
download

Stikku - Reactive Arrange
Another Coactive remix. Not terribly different from the original.
download
Tim Parnell - Haven [Power Mix]
Another from Tim. Another take on Haven, with some different drums.
download
/DJS\ - CoactiveXP
/DJS\ gives us a driving rendition of Coactive. Sounds a lot like the original, but on speed. Nice.
download

Batch 1 - posted 02.08.07

SGX - Coactive [Over My Shoulder Mix]
Begins, slower, more chilled out with a big laid-back beat and deep bass, but builds to a pretty intense and kinetic climax. Ends with a drum and bass choppy breakdown. I totally rock.
download
Tim Parnell - Coactive [TJ Mix]
This is a pretty straightforward rearrangement from Tim Parnell of the loops in the loop pack provided. Worth a listen to hear a different version of the track.
download
Darius - Haven [Darius' Mix]
Darius brings us a pretty badass breaks-plus-trance rendition of Haven. Adding some new drums and synths. I like the new instrument replacing my koto melody (piano? Synth?).
download
Anjin - Proactive
Another rearrangement of my stem loops for Coactive!
download

DJ SBX - Breaking the Barrier
This is a pretty sweet track combining Coactive, Haven, and some SBX flavor new material. Sweet beat, interesting combinations. My favorite part is around 1:45 when the piano comes in. Interesting.
download
Virtually Here - Haven [Rock the Floor Mix]
Fun arrangement of Haven that's got a few little pieces of Me Semper Maneas vocals.
download
Darius - Me Semper Maneas [Darius' Mix]
Another solid remix from Darius. New synths, pads, and piano sounds work well with the existing MSM vocals. I heard some Haven percussion in there. This turns into some pretty driving melodic trance and it's good.
download

And now, here are some glamor shots of the physical album that is sold out. Do you like my green carpet?
